ok, gonna do this in first person. everyone writes their own anyway:

I was born in South Carolina on January 4th, 1981.  That makes me a Capricorn/Monkey for anyway who is interested, and yes, please feel free to send me birthday presents.

I grew up in Liberty, SC, a town of about 3,000 people somewhere between Greenville and Clemson.  Lots of cows then, less now.

I moved out when I was sixteen, relocating to the booming metropolis of Hartsville, SC, home of abandoned boxcars and cotton fields and the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics, a public residential high school for acadmically gifted juniors and seniors.  Anyway, I believe that's what the brochure said.  There I met Stephanie Wheeler, fellow singer/songwriter and un-master of The Calculus (she has since improved and I have altogether given it up), and we begin playing together in a little duo called "Siren," which occasionally included the talents of our calculus teacher Squi, who played the drums.  We recorded a cassette demo the summer between our junior and senior years, and played various coffee shops, restaurants and bars across SC.  I continued to record at a since-closed studio in Easley, and we both moved to Charleston in the fall of 1999 to attend the College of Charleston. A cd version of these recordings was "released" - my mom figured out how to put tapes on cd - as "Early Stuff" in 1999, and was available for a few years at cdbaby.com.

While Stephanie still sings and I still sing and occasionally we may make an appearance together, my music has been mostly solo since I began college.  I played sporadically throughout my time in Charleston, sometimes alone and sometimes with Stephanie or fellow singer/songwriters Aaron Levy (of The Library Fire), JoJo Glidewell (of Modern Skirts), and Tyler Kneisly.

I released my first real studio recording in the Fall of 2001 with singer/songwriter Stella Howard at Full Moon Studios in Watkinsville, GA with the help of engineer/drummer Mark Smith and JoJo Glidewell.  It is what I have since heard referred to as a "split EP," a compromise between our lack of money and my hatred of the ep as a musical medium.  Seven songs are mine; six are Stella's - we shared musicians and spots on various surfaces of friend's apartments during a frantic week of recording.  It was available on cdbaby.com and at shows for several years, but once we sold out we opted not to make any more (at least in the original form...read on!).

Immediately following the recording of this album I spent a year studying international politics in Europe, first in Amsterdam and then just outside of London.  I finished up my political science degree in December of 2003, and spent some time making cake and coffee for tourists and learning how to be a good customer (if you've ever worked service industry, you know what I mean) and preparing to spend a year in Barcelona, Spain, where I was to be an au pair.  Due to unforseen circumstances, I was only able to stay in Barcelona for 6 months, and returned the U.S. to live in Memphis, TN for another 6 months, and then back to SC.  After saving up some money working in SC, I flew off to Argentina with my boyfriend and spent just under a year studying Spanish and working for a non-profit in Buenos Aires. I am currently working toward a masters degree in international agricultural development at UC Davis, and will be releasing my first full-length solo album in late 2008.

discography

As explained more thoroughly above, I have recorded two albums, neither of which are currently commercially available or will be available in the future in their original form. If you are someone who has a copy of either of these cds, thankyouthankyouthankyou for your early support. If you weren't around, don't worry - bigger and better is on it's way. I will be releasing my first full length solo album, recorded in Charleston, SC and Buenos Aires, Argentina, later this year, with plans to make it fully and completely commercially available for as far out into the future as any of us can think of. A special digital-only release is also in the works, and will include remastered versions of early songs as well as previously unreleased recordings from my sessions in Charleston. More info coming soon on both those items, but for now here's some more info on the lost recordings for all you history buffs out there:

early stuff is a collection of songs I burned to cd from a number of cassettes that had been gathering around my house from some studio time I'd had in Easley, SC my last two years of high school.  It features very early work by myself, singer/songwriter Stephanie Wheeler, multi-instrumentalist JoJo Glidewell of Athens-based band Modern Skirts, and singer/songwriter Tyler Kneisly, who also co-wrote the track "amniotic lullaby."

SHOSHA CAPPS: Early Stuff

palm roses/from 512A East was a collaborative effort between myself and singer/songwriter/art-maker Stella (aka Stephanie, or s.d.) Howard in the summer/fall of 2001.  It was recorded at Full Moon Studios in Watkinsville, GA, and also features JoJo Glidewell, as well several other musicians, including Mark Smith, the master of All Things Full Moon.
